Mira Vista's Errands Are Heading South on Chisholm Trail Parkway

October 15, 2026

Two announcements eight days apart have changed what lies south of Mira Vista on Chisholm Trail Parkway. Target opens a full-size store at McPherson Boulevard on Sunday, Oct. 11. On Oct. 2, H-E-B said it had bought more than 20 acres at Oakmont Boulevard for its first store this close to central Fort Worth. Autobahn Fort Worth's new campus is under construction on Oakmont, next to the H-E-B site.

Each project would be minor news alone. Together they turn the stretch of parkway south of Mira Vista into an errand corridor, built in stages over the next two years. Here is what opens when, and what to expect on the roads this fall while it happens.

Sunday's opening at McPherson

The new Target sits at the northwest corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and McPherson Boulevard. It covers roughly 148,000 square feet and will employ about 150 people. The store includes a CVS Pharmacy, a Starbucks and a Target eyeglass store. Target says it will also carry a "food-forward selection of fresh and affordable produce, meat and dairy," plus adult beverages, and the lot will have EV charging stations.

That list matters. A pharmacy, coffee, eyeglasses and a real grocery section under one roof make this a store for everyday errands. The Star-Telegram reported that plans had been in the works since 2023, so the opening finishes a project that took three years.

The McPherson intersection has more coming. White Castle plans a 2,764-square-foot restaurant at 6013 Retail Way in the Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch, near McPherson and the parkway. It will have two drive-through lanes and patio seating. The July report gave January for the start of construction and April for completion but no year, so the opening date is still open. Across the parkway, H-E-B owns a site at 5501 Crescent Hill Lane and has filed for "future development" there. As of the Star-Telegram's September report, no store had been announced.

The corner H-E-B actually chose

H-E-B's announcement named a different corner, one farther north and closer to Mira Vista's end of the corridor. The grocer bought more than 20 acres at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard. The site is inside Overland, a 250-acre community on Edwards Ranch being developed by Cassco, the Edwards family's real estate company. Construction starts early next year, and the store is expected to open in late 2028.

H-E-B's own announcement explains why this location stands out.

"For years, customers have asked us when a new H‑E‑B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth, and with our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon." Stephen Butt, president of H-E-B shareholder relations

Fort Worth's first H-E-B opened at 451 Heritage Trace Parkway in far north Fort Worth. The company has since opened in Mansfield and the Mid-Cities, and it announced a store at Walsh on the city's western edge. The Oakmont site is the first of these that the Fort Worth Report described as moving the grocer closer to central Fort Worth. For Mira Vista, a store that once meant a long drive will be a short trip down the parkway.

Back in 2025, the Edwards family's plans for this land described about 101 acres for offices, retail and apartments. Cassco said then that it wanted a grocery store in the project. The H-E-B purchase provides that grocery store. No other retailers or restaurants for Overland have been named yet.

Next door, a dealership planned like a hotel

The neighbor across Oakmont makes this corridor more than a place to shop. Autobahn Fort Worth, the high-end dealership owned by Robert Bass, is moving from 3000 White Settlement Road to a site of nearly 75 acres at Oakmont near the parkway. It sells BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen, Porsche, Land Rover and Mini. The plans read more like a club than a car lot:

  • A lake with Texas-native landscaping by the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, plus walking paths and a pier for fly-fishing classes
  • A dog park, pickleball courts and an off-road SUV test track
  • A coffee and panini bar and a Topgolf Swing Suite at BMW, two racing simulators at Porsche, and a boot store and shine station at Land Rover
  • A restaurant pad being planned with Felipe Armenta's Far Out Hospitality Group

Autobahn president Brendan Harrington told PaperCity in November 2025 that the campus would have two restaurants, a greenhouse, and event spaces with prep kitchens. Those event spaces would be opened to the community for charity fundraisers. He described the standard he wanted as "more Bowie House and less Motel 6": cloth towels in the restrooms, and porcelain plates and cups for coffee and food.

The timing is loose. A 2025 Fort Worth Report story gave December 2026 as the opening target. Autobahn later said fall 2026. Harrington told PaperCity the campus would open in stages through 2026 and 2027. The newest report, from Oct. 2, says only that the site is under construction. The Far Out restaurant has no published name or date yet. No source has said whether the lake paths, dog park or pickleball courts will be open to the public.

How the corridor fills in

Put the dates in order and the pattern is clear. Each anchor fills a different gap, and the openings are spread over the next two years.

  1. Oct. 11, 2026. Target opens at Chisholm Trail Parkway and McPherson Boulevard.
  2. Through 2026 and 2027. Parts of Autobahn's Oakmont campus open in stages.
  3. Early 2027. Construction starts on the H-E-B at Oakmont.
  4. July 2026 to July 2028. The city's $48.8 million project to expand McCart Avenue and McPherson Boulevard runs farther south. It widens and extends roads and adds two roundabouts, with substantial completion scheduled for July 2028.
  5. Late 2028. H-E-B opens in Overland.

White Castle at Retail Way belongs somewhere on this list, but its schedule has no year attached.

Getting there this fall

Over the next few weeks, the drive to the new Target starts on streets inside and next to the neighborhood. The City of Fort Worth's closure list shows work from Sept. 9 to Nov. 9, 2026 on Mira Vista Boulevard between Bryant Irvin Road and Forest Highlands Drive. The same dates apply to Dutch Branch Road between Bryant Irvin and Vista Ridge Drive, and to Bryant Irvin from Altamesa Boulevard to Interstate 30. Cityview Boulevard between Bryant Irvin and Citylake Boulevard is on the list for the same period.

The city lists each job only as "Various," and it warns that work may close single lanes or whole streets. The page doesn't say whether the work is resurfacing, utilities or something else. Check the city's closure page before a weekend errand run, especially during Target's opening weekend.

Fall dates in the same direction

The parkway's new stores join some long-standing fall traditions in this corner of the metro. Several fall on dates worth putting on the calendar now.

Date Event Location
Oct. 9, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Blooms & Beats Fort Worth Botanic Garden
Oct. 10–11 Dog Days Fort Worth Botanic Garden
Oct. 30, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Halloween Mini Golf with costume contest Benbrook Lighted Par 3 & Range, 1801 Winscott Road
Nov. 7–8, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Fall Japanese Festival Fort Worth Botanic Garden
Dec. 5, 7 p.m. 35th Annual Tree Lighting and Fireworks Show, free Dutch Branch Park, 1899 Winscott Road, Benbrook

The Fall Japanese Festival features taiko drumming, tea ceremonies, vendors and food trucks. Christmas in the Garden, with its illuminated walking trail of about 90 minutes, is not on this list because its page still lists the 2025–26 season of Nov. 20, 2025 through Jan. 3, 2026. Check the Garden's ticket calendar for this year's dates.

A Target trip this Sunday shows where the corridor stands today. The H-E-B at Oakmont, set for late 2028, shows where it is headed.
